[13:19]pitriss: SlavekB: hello, I want to ask.. Is kcontrol -> system -> displays & something (sorry I cannot tell it properly as my system is in czech) working? As it messed up my system everytime i tried to use it to change display settings based on displays connected. I got dock station for my Lenovo T430i and I wanted it to reconfigure display settings based on whether it is docked or not.
[13:21]pitriss: If not, I got idea to write some script that would set that via xrandr. But I would like to have my setup active already when TDM kicks in.. where is the best place to call my script from?
[13:21]SlavekB: For "instant settings" of displays I normally use TDERandTray. I have encountered that there are more users who report some problems with the TCC module to set multiple displays.
[13:22]SlavekB: To set multiple displays on a "desktop computer", there may be a good idea to consider the creation of sections to the Xorg configuration file.
[13:22]pitriss: For me it is completely messed up.. it does not display even screens on that place where i should drag the icons based on my physical layout, profiles messes up with color profiles on one of the screens..
[13:23]pitriss: yes but that is laptop.. And i wanted more dynamic setup.. especially when T430 in dock can't handle 3 displays at once and i need to turn off laptop main display to make work the 2 external ones.
[13:24]pitriss: So, IMO best place would be to initialize them during/before start of TDM.
[13:26]pitriss: when I have system running then it is okay for me to make looped script to switch layouts.. but before start it is annoying to log in blindly as in my setup is not enough space on the desk to make my laptop screen visible.. dock lies on the shelf under the desk.. :)
[13:27]SlavekB: Oh, clearly, I understand.
[13:27]SlavekB: I am afraid that the TCC module will require some effort to make it work ideally.
[13:28]pitriss: yep.. I guess, trinity startup using tdm uses starttde script..
[13:28]pitriss: ..is there any place where it looks for additional script?
[13:29]pitriss: (modifying it directly would be bad in regard of auto updates)
[13:32]pitriss: And please don't take it as criticism. As I tried multiple smaller/lighter DEs and LXDE it was quite pain too, LXQT it has more serious issues with customization.. so TDE is still the best I can get :) And I am OK with some flaws because of TDEs age..:)
[13:33]pitriss: My goal is just to make my dirty hack as much clean as possible
[13:39]SlavekB: you can add scripts as xsession scripts.
[13:40]SlavekB: /etc/X11/Xsession.d
[13:43]SlavekB: I am aware that the TCC module to configure display requires effort. There was a foundation, but unfortunately at the moment there is no one to continue that effort.
[13:46]SlavekB: I usually have either a desktop machine with one display or notebook, where I switch from the internal display to one external and back... it is not much to be a good environment for more thorough testing :)
[13:55]pitriss: yeah. No worries.. ill try to use Xsession.d. Thank you:)
